General Visa Application Requirements to Obtain Eritrean Tourist Visa

  1. Holiday visa application form for Eritrea – Completed Eritrean visa Form.
  2. Original and signed passport – The passport should be valid for at least six months prior to going into Eritrea and 3 months after departing Eritrea. It should have a minimum of 2 spare visa web pages and can not be older than 10 years.
  3. Passport type photo – Photo has to be no older than six months and must be 35 x 40mm in size.
  4. Previous passport – Provide a previous passport if you had any.
  5. Previous visas – Copies of previous Eritrean visas details if you had any.
  6. Flight tickets to Eritrea – Reservation of return or round trip flight tickets. In some situations the Eritrean visa office may request pre paid flight tickets to Eritrea.
  7. Travel insurance coverage – Proof of travel insurance policy with a minimum cover set by the Eritrean consular office provided with the Certificate of Insurance coverage and the table of benefits. The travel insurance should cover the cost of repatriation for medical reasons and the Certificate of Currency must be issued by an insurance company.   8. Original bank declarations – Original financial institution statements for the last 3 months revealing sufficient funds to cover your visit in Eritrea. If statements are printed online after that it needs to be Validated (stamped) by the financial institution representatives.
  9. Hotel Reservations in Eritrea – Copy of confirmed hotel bookings including name of the applicant, name and address of the hotel, duration of stay. In a lot of scenarios, only bookings which are partially or completely pre-paid can be accepted.
  10. Employment letter – This letter must be: original and signed letter from employer written on company letter head paper, verifying your ongoing employment, the status of employment, regular monthly income and yearly leave. Additionally, please give your 3 most recent pay slips. If you are self-employed: give certified copies of business registration, income tax return.
  11. For students. Please provide the following:
  • Evidence of present student status: Certificate of Enrollment.
  • Original and signed letter from university written on university letter head paper, affirming ongoing enrolment, verifying the payment of tuition fees or any kind of scholarships, and confirming semester break.
  • Insurance coverage from Organisation/University – Provide a letter from the University specifying the purpose, period of travel and confirmation that you are going to be covered by the insurance policy for the entire journey together with the Certificate of Currency and summary of benefits.

As a whole, visa applications for Eritrean visa need to be sent for a maximum of 6 months, and no later than 15 days, before the journey.
