General Visa Application Requirements to Request Burundian Visitor Visa

  1. Tourist visa application form for Burundi – Completed Burundian visa application form.
  2. Original and signed passport – The passport has to be valid for at least six months before entering Burundi and 3 months after leaving Burundi. It has to contain at least two extra visa pages and can not be older than ten years.
  3. Passport type photo – Photo should be no older than 6 months and should be 35 x 40mm in width.
  4. Previous passport – Give a previous passport if you had any.
  5. Previous visas – Copies of previous Burundian visas details if you had any.
  6. Flight tickets to Burundi – Reservation of return or round trip flight tickets. In some instances the Burundian visa office may request prepaid flight tickets to Burundi.
  7. Travel insurance – Evidence of travel insurance coverage with a minimum cover set by the Burundian embassy provided with the Certification of Insurance coverage and the table of benefits. The travel insurance need to cover the expense of repatriation for medical reasons and the Certificate of Currency must be issued by an insurance provider.   8. Original bank declarations – Original financial institution statements for the last 3 months showing adequate funds to cover your visit in Burundi. If statements are printed online after that it needs to be Verified (marked) by the bank officials.
  9. Hotel Reservations in Burundi – Copy of confirmed hotel bookings including name of the applicant, name and address of the hotel, length of stay. In most scenarios, only bookings which are partly or completely pre-paid can be accepted.
  10. Work letter – This letter needs to be: original and signed letter from employer written on company letter head paper, confirming your ongoing employment, the status of employment, monthly income and yearly leave. Likewise, please supply your 3 most recent pay slips. If you are self-employed: give certified copies of company registration, income tax return.
  11. For students. Please provide the following:
  • Proof of current student status: Certificate of Enrollment.
  • Original and signed letter from university written on university letter head paper, confirming ongoing enrolment, confirming the payment of tuition fees or any kind of scholarships, and confirming term break.
  • Insurance from Organisation/University – Provide a letter from the University specifying the purpose, period of travel and confirmation that you will be covered by the insurance for the whole journey together with the Certificate of Currency and summary of benefits.

In general, visa applications for Burundian visa must be submitted for an optimum of 6 months, and no behind 15 days, before the journey.
